What is Neurotherapy?

Neurotherapy is based on age-old Indian practice of Nadi Shodhana of Ayurveda. Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra has developed it into a completely scientific therapy through his in depth study of human physiology and anatomy and decades of experience in treating millions of patients. Neurotherapy combines the ancient Indian wisdom with the modern diagnostic information to cure all kinds of illnesses with an amazing success rate.

It is a drug less therapy. It involves applying pressure on certain body parts like arms and legs in a specific sequence for a specific time period. It is completely safe and can be given to any age group, right from a newborn infant to a 100 year old centenarian. It also does not have any side effects as no medicine is administered.

The fundamental principle on which LMNT (Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra’s Neurotherapy) is based is that most diseases arise in the body only when the acid-alkali balance of the body is disturbed. The reasons for this are aplenty – improper lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, pollution, mental and physical stress or tensions etc. This can affect the functioning of glands and organs of the body, resulting in improper production of body’s enzymes and hormones. Through LMNT we can stimulate proper supply of blood, lymph and nervous stimuli to the affected organs to ensure their proper functioning.

LMNT is also very successful in increasing the immunity of the body so that body can fight all kinds of bacterial/viral infections. Since LMNT stimulates the body systems to produce the appropriate chemicals, hormones and enzymes it has been very effective in treating nervous/brain disorders and congenital illnesses.

The uniqueness of this therapy lies in the fact, that it does not cure just the symptoms of any illness but sets the entire system right, ensuring good health of the individual. It has its own method of diagnosis, and the treatment administered varies on an everyday basis based on the patient’s condition on that particular day.

Dr Lajpatrai Mehra

Dr. Mehra, was the living saint of our times. His compassion, dedication, passion and selfless service to humanity have no parallel in recent times. He was a glorified soul, who persevered single handedly to develop a medicine less therapy to cure millions of people suffering from all kinds of illnesses.

His journey to become a pioneer of this indigenous therapy, popularly known as LMNT (Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra’s Neurotherapy) began at a tender age of 11.

He was born in a highly respected family of Amritsar on 23rd August 1932. When he was 11, he suffered from agonizing stomachaches, which could not be relieved even with the best medical help available in those days. By, providence, he met an old man who asked him to lie face down and cured his pain in a matter of seconds. The old man used a simple native technique of ‘setting the navel’ by manipulating his hands and legs in a special manner. The young Lajpatraiji could not dismiss that intriguing way of treatment from his mind and started exploring it on his own.

Ancient Indian texts refer to the navel as the epicenter of the human body and all other abdominal organs are at a specific position relative to the distance from the navel. Any disturbance in this setting is the root cause of all digestive disorders leading to other illnesses. The innovative Lajpatraiji improvised his own technique of navel setting and with his mother as a willing subject he started the therapy on her. The therapy provided immense relief to his mother who used to suffer from frequent bouts of stomach and other bodily aches. When he had perfected the technique, he started treating others in his neighborhood. Soon hordes of people, suffering from constipation, dysentery and other abdominal disorders, from nearby and distant areas, would line up in front of his father’s home.

Dr. Mehra had a formal education till the Xth standard. The ill fated partition destroyed the young man’s dreams of further studies as they had to shift to Mumbai as refugees. They lost much of their property and wealth and had to struggle once again to make a living. He was the sole breadwinner for his family with nine siblings. But no amount of adversity could affect his undaunting spirit. He immersed himself in studying books related to human anatomy, physiology, natural cures and related topics. He earned himself a degree in Naturopathy through his relentless dedication.

Origin Of Neurotherapy

Chakras are the prime centers of energy in our body as mentioned in Atharva Veda, the first treatise on human body and health. Ayurveda, the upanga of Atharva veda elaborates on nadi chikitsa as a means to restore health of an individual. Nadis are the channels or passages through which energy flows in our body. These were the traditional ways of healing since Vedic times in our country. Nadi yog or nadi vigyan is the accurate science of human body and this knowledge was the preserve of sidddh yogis and rishis in our ancient past. The wisdom was passed from guru to the disciple in our guru shishya tradition. Unfortunately, with the kind of historical turbulence our nation has been subjected to over several centuries, this science has been dwindling and now is just restricted to nadi parikshan i.e. examination of the pulse.

Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra, Founder of Neurotherapy, took upon himself the onerous task of reviving this incredible science of healing. Neurotherapy is the modern avatar of our vedic wisdom. Dr. Mehra has painstakingly studied and researched and then combined the modern medical study of human anatomy and physiology with the traditional Indian techniques of healing body. Neurotherapy is a wholesome and holistic treatment methodology that is effective, accurate and scientific. It works on the principles on nadi mardan kriya, i.e. stimulating the blood supply and restoring nerve connectivity in the body by flexion/extension of nerves, or by application of pressure at specific points in the body in a specific sequence.

The development of this therapy was no ordinary feat. It was as if it was ordained by destiny as Dr. Mehra started helping the sick and the suffering from a tender age of 11 and continued to serve people till his last breath. Through his therapy he has been able to cure all kinds of illnesses, that were termed as ‘incurable’.

The therapy was named as Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra’s Neurotherapy in 1985. He set up an ashram in Wada in Suryamal district of Maharashtra, wherein he would treat the tribal belt of the area free of charge and also educate them on topics of hygiene, nutrition etc.
